The pulpit of St. John dates back
to the Longobard period. Even if the
pulpit was incorrectly identified
as the paleo-christian cathedral of
St. Andrew, most likely it dates back
to the 7th century.
The church was renovated around the
first half of the 12th century. The
architectural style of the frontal
facade has three portals of which
the middle one with arched beams,
was sculpted after the second half
of the 12th century by Gruamonte.
Represented is the visit of the Three
Kings, an iconography which suggests
a special relationship between the
church and the urban portion of Via
Francigena, on which it was built.
