HISTORY
The Artemura Residence is in the heart of Pistoia,
few steps away from the central longobard Piazza
(square) della Sala, that today host the characteristic
and colourful fruit and vegetable market, and
from the beautiful Piazza del Duomo, where is
still possible to see the great buildings symbolising
the religious and political power of the city:
the 13th century Communal Building, Palazzo Pretorio,
the Romanic Cathedral with its silver altar dedicated
to Saint Jacopo, the Baptistery and the old Palazzo
dei Vescovi, that today host the Archaeological
Museum.
Palazzo Fancelli has been restored
fully respecting the close urban environment of
the 18th century, even if within this building
there are older elements such as the vaulting
rooms and the monumental stairs that lead to the
2nd floor, where it is possible to admire wall
paintings and decorated wood ceilings, which make
these rooms unique.
This building, with an old structure but lately
renewed, faces a beautiful garden, where, as back-drop,
there is the apse della Pieve of Saint
Andrew, marble casket of the Pulpit,
work of Andrea Pisano. In the middle of our secret
garden there still a romantic fountain of the
18th century.
Today the Residece
Artemura is the ideal accommodation for those
that want to remain in the centre of Tuscany and
close the cities of Florence, Siena, Pisa and
Lucca.
